Hahnville opens season in big way against Reed

BOUTTE – Hahnville opened the Lou Valdin era in a big way, defeating Sarah Reed, 42-6, to open the season Friday night at Tiger Stadium.

The coin flip was won by Reed. But the Tigers surprised the Olympianswith an onside kick and got the ball at mid-field. After both teams failedto make any head way, the Tigers regained the ball after a punt by Reed and with little more than 7:30 in the first took a 4-play drive to the Reed 45 where Dawan Landry connected with Mark Young at 6:51 for the games’ first score. Kade Rogers added the extra point, making the count 7-0Tigers.

Reed then took its shot at offense but after two plays, the Tigers’ Anthony Kenner step in front of a Victor Parker pass at the 40. A six-play drivewith good hard running by Hahnville’s Darryl Honor placed the ball at Reed’s 18. Rogers then went up the gut for an 18-yard touchdown andadded the extra point, making the score 14-0 at 4:24 in the first.

Again Reed went two plays and fumbled at their own 19 where it was scooped up by Mark Barnes. And at the 2:32 mark,Landry foundWoods for a touchdown and a 21 lead.

Reed again was unable to score. The Tigers then went on a 14-play drive toset up a screen play to Davin Pierre for a 16-yard score and a 28-0 lead at halftime.

After a punt by Reed to the Tigers 49, Hahnville took a 7-play drive in from Reed’s 32-yard line with a pass from Landry to Woods and a good extra point by Matt Cummins, making the score 35-0 Tigers at 4:02 in the third.
