The situation in St. James Parish at the west bank schools continues toworsen with no end in sight, despite calls for students to return to school.

Causes and beliefs about causes continue to spur further displays of temper, ego and posturing, but the end result remains the same – the children are staying away from school in droves.

Certainly, each side has its valid points but errors are also being made on both sides. Caught in the middle, with no voice in the matter, are studentsbeing deprived of their education and kept away from such school activities as football.

It may be fun for some students to enjoy a “vacation” from school but the work will have to be made up and the effects could be long-term.

Scholarships, academic and athletic, could be in peril, and to what purpose? We urge all sides to sit down and talk, but allow the students to start classes and get to the important business at hand. They don’t need anymore “vacation.” Summer is over.
