GET HIGH ON LIFE

Harold Keller / L’Observateur / August 14, 1999

No one likes to be called a fool. What best describes a fool? The Bible isvery specific. According to the Bible, only a fool will say there is no God.It also gives warning about arguing with a fool. When you do, be sure thatperson is not doing the same thing.

Personally, I’ve been a fool many times. I never did say there was no God,but I surely acted as though He didn’t exist. Many of my arguments onlyproved one thing. I definitely acted as a fool.Another characteristic of a fool is that he will mock sin. I was one of thebiggest fools. I mocked my drunkenness, immorality, pride, anger, youname it, I made fun of it.

Let me make one thing clear. I believe that the Bible is the Holy Word ofGod. I don’t understand all of it, but I accept it by faith. The people who donot accept the teachings of the Bible certainly have that right. We are allgiven a free choice.

The one sin that society mocks the most, in my opinion, is homosexuality.

Last week, I read an article about Jesse Green, age 37, a journalist and novelist, who wrote a book called The Velveteen Father. The article goeson to say how the author was single, independent, and career-oriented when he met someone who changed all that. His new love had a child, andhis life was forever transformed. According to the article, this Cinderellastory had just one twist. Green is gay.The word gay, used to mean joyous; happy, until the homosexual community embraced it to make their lifestyle sound acceptable. I’m notcondemning the homosexual. I’m convinced that God loves the person, butHe hates the sin.

This week, from the wire service out of New York, came this news: “It’s being billed as the first gay wedding on the World Wide Web: Jeffrey L.

Newman and Jeffrey W. Parker, both 31, will marry at 7 p.m., Oct. 16.Newman is president of the on-line Gay Financial Network and Parker is an accessories designer. Each groom will have three groomsmen. Newman’snephews (age 9 and 12) will be ring bearers and his nieces (age 11 and 15) flower girls. A rabbi will preside at the ceremony.”For the people who accept this as acceptable behavior, I don’t condemn you, but God will, according to I Corinthians 6:9-10 which reads: “Don’t you know that those who do wrong will have no share in the Kingdom of God? Don’t fool yourselves. Those who indulge in sexual sin, who are idolworshippers, adulterers, male prostitutes, homosexuals, thieves, greedy people, drunkards, abusers, and swindlers – none of these will have a share in the Kingdom of God.”
