ABNEY VACHERIEMora Alexis Abney, 97, a native and resident of Vacherie, died July 29.

She was a retired Orleans Parish teacher, retired owner of M.R. AlexisGeneral Store and a board member of First American Bank in Vacherie.

Services were held Aug. 2 at St. Phillip Catholic Church, Vacherie, withinterment at the church cemetery.

CELESTINE NEW ORLEANSJames Larry Celestine, 59, a native of St. James Parishand a lifelong resident of New Orleans, died July 27. He was the father ofRhonda Murray, Darlene Perkins and Donna and Norman Celestine.

He was also the brother of Helen Earl, Dinah Washington, Tracey Van Burran, Cornelius Celestine and Robert Thomas.

He is also survived by nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild. He isalso survived by his companion, Selma Stansberry.

Services were held Aug. 2 at St. David’s Catholic Church, New Orleans,with interment at Rest Haven Memorial Park.

GRIFFIN PAULINAVernon J. Griffin, 53, a native and resident of Lutcher, died July30. He was the son of the late Oneil and Gladys Cotham Griffin and brotherof Gloria Herman, Frances Conleay, Oneil Jr., Albert, Leroy and AlfredGriffin, the late Jenny Marje, Shirley Gauthier and Elsie, John, Orin, Wayne and Rodney Griffin.

Services were held Aug. 2 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Paulina, withinterment at the church cemetery.

JOHNSON HAHNVILLEAngelina A. Johnson, 82, a native of Hahnville and a residentof New Orleans for many years, died Aug. 1. She was the sister of IdaJoseph Burrell.

Services are today at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of the Holy Rosary CatholicChurch, Hahnville, with interment at the church cemetery, Taft. Visitationstarts at 8:30 a.m.

NAQUIN NORCOMarie Bethancourt Naquin, 76, a native of Taft and a resident of Norco, died Aug. 1. She was the wife of the late Louis Naquin and mother ofCheryl Ann Morgan and Richard Sr., Brenda, Gary Sr., Terald and LouisNaquin.

She was also the sister of Edith Roberts.

She is also survived by 14 grandchildren and and six great-grandchildren, and was preceded in death by two grandchildren.

Services are today at 10 a.m. at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church,Norco, with interment at St. Charles Borromeo Mausoleum, Destrehan.Visitation starts at 8 a.m.

STEWART RESERVELouis Ferrel Stewart, 59, a native and resident of Reserve, died July 28. He was the father of Allison and Kimberly Johnson, Deirdre Lewisand Latoya and Ferrel Sewart.

He was also the son of the late Louise Arceneaux and James Stewart and brother of Ernestine and Kathleen Stewart, the late Beverly Williams and Bernadine, Gloria and Clancy Leo Stewart.

He is also survived by 17 grandchildren.

Services were held Aug. 2 at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church, Reserve,with interment at St. Peter Cemetery, Reserve.

WEBER LAPLACEHilda Babin Weber, 79, a native of Sorrento and a resident of LaPlace, died July 30. She was the wife of Louis Weber and mother of EdnaMae Duhe, Roland Weber and the late Roy Weber.

She was also the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Babin and sisterof Mildred Portero, Alice Murphy, Judith Caillout and Larry and Lester Babin.

She is also survived by six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Services were held Aug. 3 at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, LaPlace,with interment at St. John Memorial Gardens.
