St. Charles Parish hosting state tournaments

LULING – St. Charles Parish will be the home for championship baseballthis week.

The Department of Parks and Recreation is hosting both the 13-year-old and 14-year-old Dixie Boys State Tournaments at the Bridge Parks beginning today.

The 13-year-olds will play at East Bank Bridge Park while the 14-year- olds are playing at the West Bank Bridge Park. Both tournaments aredouble elimination and run through Wednesday.

In the 13-year-old tournament, Franklin and Sabine open play at noon, followed by St. Bernard and Shreveport-American at 2:30 p.m. Host St.Charles plays Gonzales at 5 p.m. with Moss Bluff playing West Monroe-American at 8 p.m. The championship game is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.Wednesday.

The St. Charles All-Stars captured the 13-year-old state championshiplast year on their way to the Dixie Boys national championship.

St. Bernard and Richland open the 14-year-old tournament at noon withDeRidder and Shreveport-National playing at 2 p.m. Ponchatoula and WestMonroe-National play at 5 p.m. with host St. Charles and Alexandriaconcluding first day action at 8 p.m. The championship game will be heldWednesday at 5:30 p.m.
