RESERVE – Wendell Norman of Reserve has announced his candidacy for Councilman-at-large, Division A, in St. John the Baptist Parish. Norman is running on a platform of creating a safe environment and building economic opportunities for the citizens of St. John Parish. “I am committed to vigilantly fighting for the safety of our community from drugs, crime and substandard economic development,” he said.

Norman, who owns his own grass cutting business – Norman’s Grasscutting Services – and is employed by the St. John Parish Library, said he issaddened to see the resources of the community go untapped and underdeveloped.

“It is imperative that we come together and agree that we must leave a heritage for our children and their children for which they can be proud and properly equipped to embrace the 21st century,” Norman said.

He said he will represent his constituents to the best of his ability. “Myobjective is to become a voice for all the people of Division A,” Norman said. “Let us come together in solidarity to better all areas of St. JohnParish, because one weak link in the chain nullifies the strength of the entire chain. I petition you to let me represent the heart of the people.”Norman, a native of Wallace, graduated from Fifth Ward High School in Reserve. Before that, he attended Our Lady of Grace Catholic School, wherehe later served as its Parent-Teacher Association president and school board vice-president.

He is a member of Fellowship Missionary Baptist Church and a member of the NAACP, Southern Christian Leadership Conference, Adopt-A-Road Program, the Kairos Prison Ministry, the Hospice of Greater New Orleans and a St. John Citizen for Environmental Justice. Norman is married to the former Jeanne Bossier and has three children.
