Board honors student-athletes

LUTCHER – The St. James Parish School Board recognized severaloutstanding area student-athletes at its May 25 meeting.
The board recognized Shameka Jackson and Travis Davis of Lutcher High School for being named Class 3A first team members of the Academic All- State Basketball Team by the Louisiana High School Athletic Association.
Anson Williams of St. James High School was also recognized for winningan honorable mention spot in Class 3A.
The board also made a resolution of congratulations for the 1999 Lutcher High School boys’ track team, which won the district track and field championship for the first time in 17 years. The team went on to finishsecond in the regional competition and fifth in the state Class 3A track meet.
Students recognized by the board as being state qualifiers on the boys team are William Adams, javelin; Lance Allen, Rick Bleakley, Shane Duhe and Kenneth Johnson, 800-meter relay; Lance Allen, Ricardo Williams, Shane Duhe and Kenneth Johnson, 400-meter relay; Kelsey Belvin, David Pittman, Dameium Marcel and QuoVadis Ezidore, 1600-meter relay; Kenneth Johnson, 100- and 200-meter runs; David Pittman, 400-meter run; Thomas R. Ricks, javelin; Clarence Weber, triple jump; and RicardoWilliams, 100-meter hurdles.
Girls qualifying for state competition were Tiffany Griffin, javelin, and Keondra Robertson, 400-meter run.
A resolution of congratulations was also made for the 1999 Lutcher High School baseball team, which played in this year’s state championship game. The team finished its season with a 23-10 record.
