LUTCHER – The St. James Parish School Board spent time honoringstudents at its meeting Tuesday, including the 1998-99 St. James ParishStudents of the Year.

Parish Students of the Year are fifth-grader Whitney Dupuy, Paulina Elementary; eighth-grader Ashley McClung, Lutcher Junior High School; and 12th-grader Amy Waguespack, Lutcher High School.

School winners, also recognized, are fifth-graders Ciera Duronslet, Fifth Ward Elementary; Brittany Louque, Gramercy Elementary; Bennord Lee, Lutcher Elementary; Nekedra Nicholas, Romeville Elementary; Jovan Tassin, Sixth Ward Elementary; and Jahara Pierre, Vacherie Elementary; eighth-graders Danielle Johnson, Romeville Elementary; Brittany Cochran, St. James Junior High; and Tammy Cortez, Vacherie Elementary; and seniorKarlie Stein, St. James High School.Also honored during the meeting were the parish spelling bee winners, parish physical fitness meet winners and the Lutcher High School softball team.

Winners of the parish spelling bee, held April 13 at St. James Junior High,are: First grade – Tyler Roques, Paulina Elementary, first; David Malarcher, Romeville Elementary, second; and Juan Cunningham, Fifth Ward Elementary, third.

Second grade – Laneka Smith, Fifth Ward Elementary, first; Kayla Moses, Sixth Ward Elementary, second; and LaShaundria Hill, Lutcher Elementary.

Third grade – Joshua Alleman, Paulina Elementary, first; Daniel Hatcher, Lutcher Elementary, second; and Johnus Thomas, Sixth Ward, third.

Fourth grade – Hollie Schexnayder, Paulina Elementary, first; Mallory Veron, Gramercy Elementary, second; and Nykendilin Ester, Romeville Elementary, third.

Fifth grade – Jermeka Franklin, Lutcher Elementary, first; Jeffery Schexnayder, Vacherie Elementary, second; and Kristin Louque, Paulina Elementary, third.

Sixth grade – Crashada Armant, Sixth Ward Elementary, first; Brandy Clouatre, Gramercy Elementary, second; and Lance Simon, Vacherie Elementary, third.

Seventh grade – Tyarris Malarcher, Romeville Elementary, first; Trielle Rubin, St. James Junior High, second; and Chantel Blue, Lutcher JuniorHigh, third.

Eighth grade – Keri Barney, Lutcher Junior High, first; Ora McKinley, Romeville Elementary, second; and Brad Octave, St. James Junior High,third.

High school division – Travell Steib, St. James High, first; Brandy Poche,Lutcher High, second; and Karolena Belak, Lutcher High, third.

Winners in the St. James Parish Physical Fitness Meet, held April 22, are: Boys – Juan Johnson, Gramercy Elementary, first; Terry Dumas, Vacherie Elementary, second; and Tad Brock, Paulina Elementary, third.

Girls – Lisa Lambert, Paulina Elementary, first; Cassie Martin, Paulina Elementary, second; and Angela Webster, Gramercy Elementary, third.

In addition, the school board approved a resolution congratulating the Lutcher High School softball team, which captured the District 10-3A championship, “exemplified the true meaning of student-athlete, demonstrat(ing) humility in victory and dignity in defeat” and finished the season with a 26-6-1 overall record.
