BATISTE EDGARDSedonia Don Batiste, 89, a resident of Edgard, died May 4. Shewas the wife of the late Melvin Batiste and mother of Bernard Batiste and the late Juanita Williams and Evelyn and Louis Batiste.

She was preceded in death by 14 brothers and sisters.

She is also survived by nine grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

Services were held May 10 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Edgard,with interment at the church cemetery.

CAMBRE RESERVEDardanella Weber Cambre, 77, a native and resident of Reserve, died May 9. She was the wife of the late Jean Daniel Cambre and mother ofKeith Cambre Sr.

She was also the daughter of the late Alexis and Blanche DeMarsy Weber and sister of the late Melrose Madere, Lolida Sutton and Benny, Dewey, Roy, Walter and Elise Weber.

She is also survived by two grandchildren.

Services were Wednesday at St. Peter Catholic Church, Reserve, withinterment at the church cemetery.

ELFER RESERVEBellie Canova Elfer, 84, a native of Hammond and a resident of Reserve for the past 62 years, died May 9. She was the wife of the lateEarl Elfer and mother of Joseph Oubre Sr., Gloria Hotard, Judy La Fountainand the late Ricky Oubre.

She was also the sister of Frank Canova, Rosalie Allen, Katie Thompson, Mary Ance Robeson, Margaret Finke, Beatrice Hooks and the late Jasper and Joseph Canova Jr.

She is also survived by 10 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.

Services were Wednesday at St. Peter Catholic Church, Reserve, withinterment at the church cemetery.

GAUFF LAPLACEShirley A. Brown Gauff, 61, a native and resident of LaPlace,died May 9. She was the wife of Lucien Joseph Gauff Jr. and mother ofChermain Guerin and Lucien III and Errol Gauff.

She was also the daughter of the late Freddie and Almedia Brown and sister of Elmira Duhe and Alvin Brown.

She is also survived by one grandchild.

Services were Wednesday at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, LaPlace, withinterment at St. Peter Cemetery, Reserve.HACKMAN DES ALLEMANDSLester Moyer Hackman Sr., 87, a native of Franconia, Pa.,and a resident of Des Allemands for 63 years, died May 7. He was thehusband of Mabel Wenger Hackman and father of Polly Duhe, Frances Wood and Gordon, Robert and Lester Hackman Jr.

He was also the son of the late Henry W. and Annie Moyer Hackman and thebrother of Ruth Rittenhouse.

He is also survived by 10 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Services were held May 10 at Des Allemands Mennonite Church, with interment at the church cemetery.

JACOBS VACHERIEJames Jacobs Jr., 61, a native of New Orleans and a residentof Vacherie, died May 4. He was the husband of Doris Johnson Jacobs andfather of Valerie Roussell and Hans, Craig and Michael Jacobs.

He was also the son of the late James Sr. and Marion Smith Jacobs,grandson of Louise Thomas of Los Angeles and great-nephew of Elizabeth Burke of Edgard.

He is also survived by three grandchild.

He was a retired band instructor in the St. James Parish Public Schoolsystem.

Services were held May 10 at St. Phillip Catholic Church, Vacherie, withinterment at the church mausoleum.

JAGERS NEW ORLEANSLeola L. Jagers, 86, a native of Des Allemands and aresident of New Orleans for 70 years, died May 6. She was the mother ofJoycelyn Williams.

She is also survived by one grandchild and two great-grandchildren.

Services were held May 10 in the chapel of Majestic Mortuary, New Orleans, with interment at Resthaven Memorial Park.

JOHNSON NEW ORLEANSTheodoria D. Johnson, 67, a native of Clinton and aresident of Destrehan for 35 years, died May 5. She was the wife of thelate Edwin C. Johnson Sr. and mother of Thadrian Isles and Terry White andstep-mother of the late Pamela Joseph and Edwin Johnson Jr.

She was also the daughter of the late Grant Sr. and Lottye Smith Dennisonand sister of Michael and the late Grant Dennison Jr.

She is also survived by seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Services were held May 11 at Peck United Methodist Church, New Orleans, with interment at Jefferson Memorial Gardens, St. Rose.KELLER RESERVEIsma Webre Keller, 79, a native of Edgard and a resident of Reserve for 58 years, died May 9. She was the wife of the late Whitney Keller and mother of Dolores Madere and Ron Keller.

She was also the daughter of the late Rene and Anette Webre and sister of Cecila Holmes, Stephen, Theodore and Rene Keller and the late Dudley Webre.

She is also survived by six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Services are May 13 at St. Peter Catholic Church, Reserve, with interment at the church cemetery. Visitation starts today at 5 to 10 p.m. and Thursday at 8 a.m.LEWIS EDGARDBetty Powell Lewis, 51, a native of Killona and a resident of Edgard, died May 4. She was the wife of Henry Lewis and mother ofRoderick and Reginald Lewis.

She was also the daughter of the late Rev. James and Cecile Powell andsister of Leona Lee, Albertha Gulledge, Alma Theodore, Margaret Francis, Ophelia Young and Diane, Barbara, James Jr., Ernest Powell and the lateThelma Harris.

She is also survived by three grandchildren.

Services were held May 11 at Greater New St. Peter Baptist Church,Edgard, with interment at St. John the Baptist Cemetery, Edgard.MARSE RESERVEArto J. “George” Marse Jr., 74, a native of Vacherie and aresident of Reserve for 57 years, died May 9. He was the husband of thelate Juanita “Nite” Tregre Marse and father of Susan Guidry, Nancy Desselle and Kenneth and Allen Marse.

He was also the son of the late Arto and Agnes Brock Marse and brother of Elvige Gradois, Jeanne Folse, Mary Humphries, Emma Schexnayder, Jean Marse Sr. and the late Lester Sr. and Pershing Marse.He is also survived by eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

He was a former Reserve Volunteer Fire Department chief.

Services are today at 10 a.m. at St. Peter Catholic Church, Reserve, withinterment at the church cemetery. Visitation starts at 8 a.m.MARSE RESERVEJuanita “Nite” Marse, 73, a native of Garyville and a resident of Reserve for 53 years, died May 9. She was the wife of Arto J. “George”Marse Jr. and mother of Susan Guidry, Nancy Desselle and Kenneth andAllen Marse.

She was also the daughter of the late Romain and Bertha Boe Tregre and step-sister of Lois Tamplain, Marian Falgoust and Eldon and R.J. Tregre.She is also survived by eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren and her aunt, Eola Boe Weber.

Services were Wednesday at St. Peter Catholic Church, Reserve, withinterment at the church cemetery.

MATHIEU HAHNVILLEFlorence Darensbourg Mathieu, 82, a native of Killona and a resident of LaPlace, died May 9. She was the wife of the late PamphyreMathieu and mother of Rosana Garnett and Darrell Mathieu.

She was also the daughter of the late Felix and Felicianne Rousseve Darensbourg and sister of the late Marie Woods and Ralph Darensbourg.

She is also survived by six grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Services were Wednesday at Our Lady of the Most Holy Rosary Catholic Church, Hahnville, with interment at the church cemetery, Taft.

REMONDET RESERVEMildred Vicknair Remondet, 70, a native and resident of Reserve, died May 9. She was the wife of the late Hubert Remondet Sr. andmother of Hubert “Butch” Jr., Sandra and Johnny Remondet.She was also the daughter of the late Edward and Lillian LeBlanc Vicknair and sister of Anna DuFrene, Sylvia Lott and Richard and Oscar Vicknair.

She is also survived by nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Services are May 13 at St. Peter Catholic Church, Reserve, with intermentat the church cemetery. Visitation starts today from 5 to 10 p.m. andThursday at 10 a.m.RICHARD NEW ORLEANSDorothy Zeringue Richard, 74, a native of Algiers, former resident of Harahan and resident of LaPlace, died May 9. She was the wifeof the late E.J. Richard and mother of Michael and Tim Richard.She is also survived by three grandchildren.

Services were held May 11 in the chapel of All Faiths Funeral Home, New Orleans, with interment at Our Lady of Prompt Succor Mausoleum, Westwego.

TORRES LAPLACEAnn Duhe Torres, 65, a native of Reserve and a resident of LaPlace for 42 years, died May 9. She was the wife of Robert Torres andmother of Robert Jr., Barry and Brian Torres.She was also the daughter of the late Ambrose and Bernadette Battard Duhe and sister of Aline Gueret and Clair, Michel, Antoine, Lawrence, Ronald and Errol Duhe and the late Bernadette Oubre and Albert, Jules and Jean Duhe.

She is also survived by one grandchild and five step-grandchildren.

Services are May 13 at noon at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, LaPlace,with interment at St. Peter Cemetery, Reserve. Visitation starts todayfrom 5 to 10 p.m. and Thursday from 10 a.m.VICKNAIR LAPLACEDonald J. “Duck” Vicknair, 64, a native and resident of Reserve,died May 7. He was the husband of Marilyn Amato Vicknair and father ofAngelia Westbrook and Julie Broussard.

He was also the son of the late Pierre and Ellenor Jacob Vicknair and brother of Mary Scioneaux, Gladys Maurin, Peter Vicknair and the late Corine Weber and Clement, Robert and Harry Vicknair.

He is also survived by seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Services were held May 10 in the chapel of Millet-Guidry Funeral Home, LaPlace, with interment at St. John Memorial Gardens, LaPlace.
