The St. Charles Catholic Athletic Association is holding a monthly$1,000 raffle. Only 100 tickets will be sold each month at a cost of $20per ticket. James native Lenny Webster of the Baltimore Orioles, Riverside Academy’s Carl Schultz of the Chicago Cubs, East St. John’s DarrylNicholas of the Milwaukee Brewers and Thomas Pittman of the Montreal Expos along with the support of Aaron Lombard, Community Re-lations Director for the New Orleans Zephyrs and a host of other minor and major league athletes.

Registration will take place Saturday, Jan. 16 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at theWal-Mart Shopping Center on Airline Highway in LaPlace.

The instructional clinic will be geared toward teaching the fundamental skills of baseball for children ages 8-16 years-old. The cost of the clinicwill be $20 per child. All proceeds will benefit parish recreation.Participants will be responsible for providing their own shoes and gloves.

Southeastern Louisiana University’s Lions basketball head coach John Lyles and his staff will be the host again this year for their Hardwood Club Game-Day breakfasts.

The breakfasts, which are open to the public, take place at the SLU Alumni Center Banquet Room from 7-8 a.m. Complimentary coffee, juice anddonuts will be available as Lyles discusses SLU’s game that night. TheHardwood Club will hold breakfasts this year for the following games: Jan.

Special Olympics Louisiana’s new “Share the Victory” motor vehicle recycling program allows anyone in Orleans, Jefferson, St.

Bernard, St. Tammany and St. Charles parishes to turn extra or unwantedvehicles into “something special for Special Olympics.”An individual can call the “Share the Victory” toll-free number and Special Olympics will arrange to tow away their motor vehicle for free.

The vehicle will be recycled into the funds needed to support the year- round program of sports training and athletic competition for mentally- retarded children and adults in Louisiana.

Vehicles can be in any condition to qualify as long as the owner has the title. Consumers may also be able to take advantage of a tax deduction asthe fair market price of the vehicle is considered a tax deductible donation to Special Olympics.
