Former St. John clerk of court dies

RESERVE – Former St. John Parish Clerk of Court Harold Montegut died Nov.14.
Montegut was married 58 years to Margaret Triche Montegut of Reserve.
The elder Montegut was considered the family patriarch, according to his namesake and successor to office, Harold “Monty” Montegut Jr.
He always took care of everybody else,” he recalled with a smile.
Montegut worked for the Bank of St. John for 16 years then was elected tooffice in 1952. He served eight four-year terms until he retired in 1984.While in office, he served on the board of directors of the Louisiana Clerks Association and on the board of directors for the Bank of St. John.He was a member of the Reserve Lions Club, Woodsmen of the World and the Knights of Columbus, as well as a parishioner of St. Peter CatholicChurch.
He was the father of Harold Jr. of Reserve, Richard of Houston, Texas,David of Destrehan, Randy of New Iberia and Jeffrey Montegut of LaPlace; and brother of Carmen Stein, Claire Madere and the late Olga Rodrigue and Jeanne, James, Marcel and Sidney Montegut.
