Clinton eliminates Comets

CLINTON – Rodney Stinson ran for 197 yards and four touchdowns as Clinton eliminated St. Charles Catholic from the bi-district playoffs witha 26-17 victory Friday night.

Clinton, ranked sixth in Class 2A with a 9-1 record, will play the winner of the Many-Coushatta game in the regional playoffs next week. St.Charles Catholic completed its season at 5-6.

St. Charles Catholic got on the scoreboard first with a 28-yard field goalby John Price with 5:27 left in the first quarter. Clinton answered asStinson scored on a 9-yard run with 1:22 remaining in the period. Theextra point was no good, leaving the score at 6-3.

Clinton extended its lead in the second quarter with an 18-yard touchdown run by Stinson. Again, the extra point was no good but the Eagles took a12-3 lead into the break.

St. Charles Catholic pulled to within two with 1:55 left in the thirdquarter on a 9-yard run by Wayne Stein. Phillip Hoffman added the extrapoint, making the score 12-10.

St. Charles Catholic took the lead with 11:25 remaining in the game on a44-yard run by Stein. Hoffman’s extra point made it 17-12, Comets. ButClinton came right back on its next drive, capping it with a 53-yard run by Stinson at the 10:56 mark. Clinton ended the scoring with a 7-yard run byStinson.

Stein finished the game with 143 yards and two touchdowns on the ground.

Nick Monica completed 11 of his 15 passes for 111 yards as the Comets rolled up 277 total yards. Price had three catches for 42 yards while MattWeber added three receptions for 36 yards.

Greg Flowers completed 2 of his 5 passes for 43 yards and two interceptions for the Eagles.
