Lady Eagles rally to place second at Hosanna tourney

BATON ROUGE – The Reserve Christian Lady Eagles showed the “heart of a champion” at the Hosanna Tournament Saturday.
The Lady Eagles advanced to the championship game of the tournament, falling in the finals to Central of Baton Rouge, 16-14, 15-6. Earlier,Reserve Christian had rallied to defeat Runnels and Catholic-Pointe Coupee in pool play. Reserve Christian, Runnels and Jehovah-Jireh wereonly Class B and C teams in the 10-team tournament.
The Lady Eagles opened the tournament with a 12-15, 15-13, 15-13 victory over Runnels. Ashley Holmes led the way with 28 kills. KatieMillet had two aces and Amber Keller was the top defender for the Lady Eagles.
In the second match, Catholic-Pointe Coupee jumped out to a 14-2 lead in the first game. But the Lady Eagles rallied, scoring 14 unanswered pointsfor a 16-14 victory. Reserve Christian continued the momentum into thesecond game, rallying again for a 15-9 win. Holmes had 15 kills and addedtwo aces while Summer Vicknair led the way on defense.
The victory sent the Lady Eagles to the championship game against Central which had defeated Dunham and White Castle in the tournament.
In the first game, Reserve Christian rallied from a six-point deficit to tie the score at 14 before Central took the last two points. Central thenclosed out the match with a 15-6 victory in the second game. Holmesagain had 28 kills to lead the Lady Eagles. Angie Tucker had an ace andMillet provided top defense.
“The team played really well,” Reserve Christian coach Mike Marix said.
“They played good as a team. I felt watching them at the tournament, ourtitle for the season was ‘Heart of a Champion.’ They did good spiritedthings at the tournament.”Reserve Christian, which improved to 3-1 with its play over the weekend, hosts Jehovah-Jireh Friday at 5 p.m.
