Belle Terre hosts golf, tennis tournaments

LAPLACE – Golf and tennis have always been popular at Belle Terre Country Club. Most recently, Matt Lawless and Glen Faucheux took firstplace in the Men’s Division of the Nifty Fifties tournament at the club.

Under a searing sun, Jennifer Acosta and Jo Ann Falterman claimed first place with Meg Spatz and Bridget Montz placing second in the women’s “B” Division. Taking home prize certificates for first place in the “A” divisionwas Enid Poche and Karen Landeche. Second place went to Susan Faucheuxand Hazel Lawless.

Belle Terre tennis professional Mike Bryan coordinated the tournament which was followed by a “Nifty Fifties” evening of fun in the clubhouse.

Earlier in the season, the 17th Annual Cajun Clot Pot golf and tennis tournaments were filled with participation and anticipation. In golf, 62two-man teams from all over the country played the course with format quota based on handicap and the tour was flighted by handicap.

Results from Saturday’s “closest to the hole” were Dennis Muller, matt Lawless, Chuck Rouse and Melee Tubre on holes three, five, 13 and 16, respectively.

The tournament continued on Sunday with winners in the same category including Bill Wright, John Frabbille and Billy Powell on holes three, five and 16, respectively.

The four places won in Flight 1 were first, Gary Sorrell and Rick Bratcher; second, Mike Schoen and Seven Kesler; third, Al James and Jeremy St.

Pierre; and fourth, Gary Richardson and Fred Hoffman.

Flight two had Steve Lee and Warren Duffy, first; Mike Terry and Kyle Kuhlow, second; Joe Clark and Ben Lawrence, third; and Gordon Jeffcoat and Donnie Boudreaux Jr., fourth.Jason Hartedgen and John Trainor won first place in Flight 3 with Gary Fetteroff and Rick Hartenstein finishing second; Blake Arata and Lou Butcher in third; and Bob Ducote and Mike St. Germain in fourth. Leadingthe group in Flight 4 were Tom Smith and Larry Echelberger with Mike Gentry and Chris Cox in second. Steve Mauer and Sammy Geruado werethird followed by Charlie LaBorde and Floyd Marouge.

While the golf tournament went on, the ladies took to the tennis courts.

The round robin tournament was conducted by Bryan and concluded with Susan Faucheux and Terri Cangelosi in first place with the most games won, followed by Renee Kurica and Anna Monica in second place.

Following tournament play on Saturday evening, all participants were eligible to attend a dinner dance in the clubhouse.
