Riverlands Rallies In Relays To Defeat Belle Terre, 289-264

LAPLACE – When the Belle Terre Piranhas and Riverlands Stingrays meet up in the swimming pool, the meets also seem to come down to who can win the most relays.

Wednesday night’s meet in front of a packed house at Belle Terre Country Club was no different as Riverlands won 12 of the 20 relays for a 289- 264 victory in River Parish Swim League action.

Riverlands trailed by 208-205 heading into the relays. Belle Terre andRiverlands split the 8 and under age group with the Stingrays winning the boys competition and the Piranhas taking first in the girls. Riverlandsthen surged ahead by sweeping the 9-10 age group.

Belle Terre regained the lead by taking both the events in the 11-12 age group but Riverlands went ahead to stay by sweeping the 13-14 group and taking first in the 15-18 boys race by a close margin. Belle Terre closedout the medleys with a victory in the 15-18 girls age category.

The teams opened the freestyle relay by splitting the 8 and under age group with Riverlands taking the boys and Belle Terre the girls competition. The Stingrays increased their lead with a sweep in the 9-10age group before Belle Terre took the 11-12 boys. After Riverlands wonthe 11-12 girls relay and Belle Terre took first in the 13-14 boys, the Stingrays clinched the victory with wins in the 13-14 girls and 15-18 boys races. Belle Terre ended the meet with a victory in the 15-18 girlsrelay.

Belle Terre jumped out early, leading 55-53 after the freestyle. Winnersfor the Piranhas were Joel Gonzales, Blake Gillies and Richard Lyons in the boys competition and Madeline Ruiz and Corey Laborde in the girls. Firstplace finishers for the Stingrays were Neil Schexnayder, Shannon Graver and Robbie Paydo for the boys and Lindsey Eichhorn, Lyndsey Torres, Jeanne Guillot and Bethany Cottingham for the girls.

The Piranhas opened up their lead in the backstroke, taking a 118-98 lead after 24 events. First place winners for Belle Terre were Adam Carter,Blake Gillies, Josh Ford and Jake Laborde for the boys and Madeline Ruiz, Alexis Bailey and Monica Scioneaux in the girls’ events. Taking first placefor the Stingrays were Neil Schexnayder and Robbie Paydo in the boys competition and Lyndsey Torres, Jeanne Guillot and Kristen Abbondante in the girls.

Riverlands closed the gap in its best event, the breaststroke, cutting the margin to 165-158. The Stingrays were led by first place finishes by NeilSchexnayder, Steven Graver, Andrew Cohen and Shannon Graver in the boys competition and Karen Bordelon and Bethany Cottingham for the girls.

Winners for Belle Terre were Justin Theriot and Adam Gros for the boys and Candace McGaff, Chelsea Temple and Corey Laborde for the girls.

The Stingrays would pull still closer in the butterfly, outscoring Belle Terre, 47-43 in the event. Winners for Riverlands were Pierre St. Martinand Shannon Graver in the boys events and Jeanne Guillot and Bethany Cottingham in the girls. Taking first for the Piranhas were Blake Gillies,Richard Lyons and Jeffery James for the boys and Alexis Bailey, Laura Bailey and Corey Laborde for the girls.
