Laiche Pitches Cretin Homes To Victory Over Prudential

KENNER – Brandon Laiche gave up six hits in going the distance as Cretin Homes defeated The Prudential, 10-3, for its second consecutive victory in the Bonnabel Tournament Sunday afternoon.

Cretin Homes also got a stellar pitching performance Saturday as John Price and Courtney Bonura combined on a one-hitter in a 2-1 victory over Westin Canal Place. Ty Monica scored the winning run in the bottom of theseventh inning.

In Sunday’s game, Laiche (1-0) held Prudential to two hits over the first five innings as Cretin Homes jumped out to a 10-0 lead. Laiche also did itat the plate, going 3-for-3.

“Brandon pitched extremely well,” Cretin Homes head coach Frank Monica said.

Prudential starter Scott Vandermeer held Cretin Homes in check until the third when Laiche picked up the first hit of the game with a single to right. Darren Gaubert followed with a single to right and went to secondon the throw in to the infield.

Nick Monica then lined a shot off the top of the right field wall for the first run of the game. Jarrett Maurin followed with a fly ball to right toscore Gaubert and John Price made it 3-0 with a single to left. Price thenstole second and scored as Steven Faucheux singled to left.

Cretin Homes built its lead with four more runs in the top of the fourth.

After Matt Weber and Laiche opened the inning with singles, Weber came in to score on a wild pitch by Vandermeer. Gaubert then lined a single toright to make the score 5-0. Monica followed with his second double of thegame to bring in the third run of the inning and came around to score on Maurin’s single and a fly ball to center by Price.

The Cretin Homes defense took over in the bottom of the inning. MilesGranderson led off the inning with Prudential’s first hit of the game but was picked off first by Laiche. Seth Bosworth followed with a highchopped up the middle. Monica got to the ball and threw to first with Pricemaking a full stretch for the out. Maurin then made a diving catch ofVandermeer’s fly ball in foul territory to end the inning.

Cretin Homes made it 9-0 in the top of the fifth on a walk by Bonura and singles by Weber, Laiche and Gaubert. Doubles by Price and Wayne Stein tolead off the top of the sixth gave Cretin Homes a 10-run advantage.

The Prudential, consisting of players from McDonogh 35, McMain, Ben Franklin and Faith Christian, began to reach Laiche in the bottom of the inning. Jordan Gilmore led off the inning with a pinch-hit single, KevinCador reached on an error and Granderson singled to load the bases. Laichethen got Bosworth to hit into a double play to second with Gilmore coming in to score.

Vandermeer kept the inning alive with a single left and came in to score as Chris Carsen singled and Shaun Schexnayder reached on a wild pitch after striking out.
