Geraci chosen Woman of Year by area business women’s group

Wilma Geraci of Destrehan was recently chosen chapter Woman of the Year by the members of LaFlambeau Charter Chapter of the American Business Women’s Association.

An active member since 1995, Geraci has held the offices of chapter vice president and secretary and has chaired and participated in various fundraising committees. She is currently serving as program committeechairperson. She has sponsored six members and attended educationalseminars at three regional Spring conferences and a national convention, at which she represented LaFlambeau as a delegate.

Geraci is a registered professional reporter and certified court reporter.

She has been a freelance court reporter with Johns, Pendleton & Associates, of New Orleans, since 1989. She is a member of the NationalCourt Reporters Association and the Louisiana Court Reporters Association. She is currently enrolled at the University of Alabama -Tuscaloosa, participating in the External Degree Program as a part-time student.

Geraci is a avid supporter of the St. Charles Parish Community EducationProgram. Besides her membership with LaFlambeau, she is a member ofthe Professional Women of the River Region, the Invincible Investors, an investment club of which she is a founding member, and a member of Women of the Moose of the Loyal Order of the Moose, Metairie Lodge 2195.

She supports all the chapter’s fund-raising activities, both in participation and sales.

“I am constantly striving to recruit new members to ABWA, both on a local and national level,” Geraci said.

LaFlambeau Charter Chap-ter was chartered March 25, 1980, with 30 members – their current membership is 52 – all working women of the tri-parish area. The mission of ABWA is to bring together business womenof diverse occupations and to provide opportunities for them to help themselves and others grow personally and professionally through leadership, education, networking support, and national recognition.

LaFlambeau Charter Chapter of ABWA is open to all residents of the River Parishes involved in any aspect of business. Business meetings are heldthe third Tuesday of each month. For information call membershipcommittee chairperson Joy Miller at 652-3743.
