Lutcher Fourth In Piccadilly Cup Standings

BATON ROUGE – Lutcher, coming off a state championship in softball, is in fourth place in Class 3A in the running for the Piccadilly Cup.

Lutcher currently has 140 points. Catholic of New Iberia, which lost toLutcher in the softball Class 3A championship game, leads with 240 points. Parkview Baptist is second with 200 points, followed by Evangelwith 190 points.

The Piccadilly Cup was established this school year by the Louisiana High School Athletic Association as its all-sports award. Schools earn pointsby finishing in the top four places in each of the 23 sports sanctioned by the LHSAA.

Total points accumulated at the end of the school year determine the winners. Champions in each sport receive 60 points, runners-up 30 points,third place winners 20 and fourth place winners 10. In sports withundetermined third and fourth places, 15 points will be awarded to each semifinalist.

Lutcher received 60 points apiece for its softball and boys’ swimming state championships. The girls’ swim team placed third in state, givingthe school 20 points in the standings.

Current standings are through 22 of 23 sports with baseball being the only sport not yet completed.
