EDGARD – St. John the Baptist Parish may eventually have anotheralternative program for students in addition to two others the parishalready offers.

St. John Superintendent Cleveland Farlough asked the school board at itsmeeting Thursday night if he could have authorization to study andeventually make a recommendation for an alternative school for expelledstudents.

The school would possibly be in one or two of the extra classrooms at thealternative school next to Leon Godchaux Junior High and would be underthe direction of principal Alexia Henderson.

The alternative school at Leon Godchaux is for high school age studentswho have failed several times.

Board member Aleitha Bardell voted for the study of the alternativeprogram for expelled students to begin, but not before voicing concernabout taking the time to do a study.

“We need to get these students in school and off the streets,” she said.”Why do we need a study? We have ample space. “The desks are there andwe have the money. And if we don’t, we should eliminate something else.”Bardell made a motion for the study to begin, which was seconded by theentire board.
