Sales Tax-free holiday underway in St. John Parish

LAPLACE — St. John the Baptist Parish is participating in Louisiana’s Annual Sales Tax Holiday today and Saturday (Aug. 4, 5) by exempting 5.25 percent local sales tax in addition to the state’s exempted 2 percent on the first $2,500 of the purchase price of tangible personal property for non-business use.
The holiday continues through 11:50 p.m. Saturday.
The sales tax holiday does not apply to vehicles subject to title and license, meals prepared for consumption on premises or to-go, and taxable services such as hotel occupancy, laundry services, printing services, telecommunications services, furnishing of cold storage space, leases or rentals of tangible personal property, repairs to tangible personal property, and admission to athletic, amusement, or recreational facilities.
