LAPLACE — In separate cases last month, two men who pleaded guilty to illegal marijuana dealing were sentenced to jail time.

Joshua Jones was sentenced April 25 to eight years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections for possession with intent to distribute synthetic marijuana.

The plea deal was part of an agreement with the St. John District Attorney’s Office, according to the St. John Clerk of Court’s Office, which includes prosecutors dropping charges against Jones for illegal use of weapons, aggravated criminal damage to property and obstruction of justice.

The sentence will run concurrently with any other sentences Jones is serving, the Clerk’s office said.

The District Attorney’s Office and St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff’s Office did not return requests for comment on Jones’ arrest and prosecution.

According to the Clerk’s Office, Jones was given credit for time served between Feb. 18, 2015, and Sept. 14, 2015.

Also April 25, Junius Martin Banks IV was sentenced to seven years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections following his guilty plea to possession with intent to distribute marijuana.

The Clerk’s Office indicated Banks was given credit for time served and the sentence is to run concurrent with any other sentence Banks is serving.

A plea agreement between Banks and prosecutors indicated there was a reduction in charges for the defendant, the Clerk’s office said.

The District Attorney’s Office and St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff’s Office did not return requests for comment on Banks’ arrest and prosecution.
