One dead, two drivers injured in LaPlace car crash
On Friday, Louisiana State Troopers were informed of a two-vehicle crash on Interstate 10 near milepost 211 on the Bonnet Carré Spillway bridge in St. John the Baptist Parish which left a passenger dead and two drivers injured.
The Louisiana State Police, say troopers with Troop B who initiated initial investigation into the crash revealed that for reasons currently unknown, a 2012 Mazda 6 had stopped in the left lane with its lights on, when a 2017 Nissan Sentra simultaneously approaching the Mazda from behind, hit the car and push it forward into its driver, who was standing in front of the vehicle near its bumper.
The driver was reportedly thrown into the marsh below the bridge after the crash. Troopers said the crash claimed the life of a 22-year-old man, Curtis Collins of Baton Rouge, a front seat passenger in the Mazda vehicle who wasn’t restrained and died on the scene.
It is unknown if impairment was a factor in the crash. Routine toxicology samples were taken from the drivers for analysis in the ongoing investigation.
Troopers remind motorists to move disabled vehicles off the roadway whenever possible. Avoid exiting your vehicle, and buckle up when inside the vehicle. For assistance, call 911 or *LSP (*577) to reach the nearest Troop.
