Haston Lewis Jr, has won in the runoff election to be the Justice of the Peace in District 1 of St. John’s the Baptist Parish.

He was reelected Saturday, defeating his closest challenger Lori Burke with over 37 percent of the vote, according to complete official results released on Saturday. Haston received 389 votes to Lori’s 233 votes. There was a 24.8 percent turnout, according to the Secretary of State.

Haston, Lori and two other candidates, Jade Champagne, and  Chad Roussell faced off in the primary election in November. None of the candidates received more than 50 percent of the vote so Haston and Lori, who were the top two vote-getters, qualified for the runoff election.

Jeff Landry, Governor of Louisiana had called for a special election to be conducted after the resignation of Haston Lewis Jr, who vacated the seat as Justice of the peace in District 1 on May 8. 

Haston boasts an impressive record of public service as he had previously served as a Justice of the Peace for six years from 2014 until his term expired in Dec.31 2020. He has also served on the St. John Parish Recreational Board for 11 years.
