Mother of murder suspect arrested, investigation ongoing

Ashley Fleming, 37, from Garyville, was arrested on Saturday and charged with felony obstruction of justice and being an accessory after the fact to second-degree murder.
While investigating the shooting, detectives discovered that Ashley tried to destroy evidence related to the case. She is currently being held in the parish jail in LaPlace on a $30,000 bond.
Detectives from the St. John Sheriff’s Office are still investigating the shooting that happened in the 200 block of Sherman Walker Street on Friday, January 24, 2025. Officers arrived at the scene and discovered the victim, Michael Johnson, Jr., 18, of Garyville, with a gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators have arrested a 16-year-old male juvenile in connection with the shooting. He has been charged with second-degree murder.
No details were immediately available Monday as the motive for the shooting has not been determined and the name of the suspect is still withheld.
