LUTCHER — Citing her decades of business experience and long-time record of community involvement, Camella St. Pierre Landry announced  that she is a candidate for the District 2 seat on the St. James Parish Council.  Current Councilmember Jason Amato is not seeking re-election to this position.  Voting is scheduled for Saturday, October 14 with early voting slated for September 30 through October 4.

“I will work for you and with you to make St. James an even greater place to live,” Landry said.  “We have much to be proud of and many successes on which to build an even more responsive government that continues to meet the needs of residents.  I will only speak positive things about St. James Parish and working together we will further enhance our community.  I humbly ask for your support and vote.”

Landry said her 21 years of service on the St. James Parish Economic Development Board is proof of her commitment to attracting more good jobs.  “As the current chairwoman, I am actively involved in protecting our existing businesses and recruiting new economic opportunities that provide needed employment for our residents and vital tax revenue to fund government services.”

Her work as secretary/treasurer of the River Parish Tourist Commission positions her to be a strong advocate for promoting St. James Parish to travelers.  “Tourism brings in major dollars to our parish and I will work to do even more to attract visitors.  We must continue to share our wonderful history, unique culture and of course our delicious food with the world.  Working together, we can help grow tourism into an even larger economic engine not only in St. James, but throughout the River Parishes,” Landry said.

Landry’s business background uniquely qualifies her to serve on the council.  “I know what it means to pay taxes, meet a payroll, and keep the books straight.  With 38 years of experience as co-owner of a successful business, I’ll make sure taxpayers get the most bang for their buck in the parish’s $89 million budget.  After all, it’s your money.”

She will fully support continued efforts to address blighted properties while improving public safety, our recreational facilities and infrastructure.  Landry will focus on efforts to strengthen drainage systems and provide better roads.  She pledges to “Work with all entities at the local, state and federal level to complete flood and hurricane protection projects that will defend homes and businesses.”

A lifelong resident of Lutcher, Landry is co-owner of The Decor Shoppe.  She is a charter member and past president/director of the Festival of the Bonfires.  Landry is a graduate of Lutcher High School and Delgado Community College.  She and Gordon Landry have been married for 30 years and they are members of St. Joseph Catholic Church.  To follow the campaign on social media, visit the “Camella St. Pierre Landry” page on Facebook.
