RESERVE — The Southeast Louisiana Veterans Home held a Memorial Day Ceremony on May 26. Our Master of Ceremonies Harold Keller began with a big welcome. Everyone was glad to be together to honor those who gave it all. Father John Lambert opened and closed the ceremony with two beautiful prayers.

Our program included a brief history on Memorial Day from Administrator Brian Fremin. Our key note speaker, Commander Allan Reynaud of American Legion Post 383, spoke on the importance of supporting our military, both young and old.  Commander Harold Miller and the VFW Post 5852 presented the colors and honored our fallen heroes with a three-round volley, while the St. John the Baptist Fire Department proudly displayed the American flag. Janice Church shared two beautiful poems about Flanders Fields, and Ms. Dontrielle Davis read the names of the veterans who passed away since our last Memorial Day. There were a lot of emotions as she read the list of names. You can just picture in your mind as their names are read how each of them had something special and unique that you would never forget.

The Victory Belles of the WWII Museum performed for our heroes, and they were absolute perfection. The crowd cheered louder and louder as they performed. Following the performance, Ms. Glynette Martin said a blessing before we enjoyed chili dogs, chips, cake, and ice cold beverages.

Sponsors included the Elks Lodge of Metairie (food), Capital One, Dow Chemical (goodie bags), the St. John Parish Fire Department, the World War II Museum Victory Belles, and Heart of Hospice.

Thanks to our staff, volunteers, and family members for making this event a memory that will forever be etched in our hearts. Community support for our Veterans is so strong and so appreciated.
