LAPLACE — After completing a comprehensive and extensive search, Dr. RaeNell Houston, Superintendent of Catholic Schools and Executive Director of Catholic Education and Faith Formation, is pleased to announce that Dr. Shelly Chauvin has been named the new head of school for St. Charles Catholic High School in LaPlace.  Dr. Chauvin succeeds Dr. Courtney Millet.

“Dr. Chauvin will bring not only her strong work ethic and qualifications to the role of Head of School but also a strong personal connection being a parent and, on the faculty, here at St. Charles Catholic,” said Superintendent of Catholic Schools, Dr. RaeNell Houston. “I am confident that Dr. Chauvin’s faith will guide her to be a strong spiritual leader for the school and her professional experience will strengthen the SCC community.”

Dr. Chauvin has over 18 years of professional experience both in the classroom and in school administration. Having spent the majority of her professional career in public education as a teacher, assistant principal and principal, she has devoted recent years to serving her children’s Catholic schools in various ways. Most recently, she has served as the technology resource teacher at St. Charles Catholic.

“As a product of Catholic education, my husband and I have a high respect and value for Catholic education and have been committed to providing our own five children with the opportunity to attend Catholic schools,” said Dr. Chauvin. “I am excited to begin this new role as head of school for St. Charles Catholic High School so I can be a part of each student’s and family’s Catholic school journey.”

Dr. Chauvin received a doctor of education in educational leadership and technology from Southeastern Louisiana University in 2010. She has a master of education in administration and supervision, and a bachelor of arts in elementary education. She is a graduate of E.D. White Catholic High School and St. Joseph Catholic Elementary School in Thibodaux. She and her family are parishioners at St. John the Baptist Church in Edgard.

“I feel honored and blessed to be chosen to lead St. Charles Catholic, a place that already has a very important place in my heart,” added Dr. Chauvin. “I look forward to sharing my skills, vision and goals to see St. Charles Catholic continue to grow and our students succeed.”

Dr. Chauvin will begin her tenure as Head of School on July 1, 2023.
