The St. Charles Parish Sheriffโ€™s Office wants citizens to be aware of a phone scam that is currently active in our area. Citizens have reported that callers contacted them claiming to be an officer of the โ€œSt. Charles Parish Sheriffโ€™s Office.โ€ The caller oftentimes refers to the citizen by name and claims they missed a court appearance or jury duty. The caller requests them to pay fees or a warrant will be issued for their arrest, or they may turn themselves in to jail.
Scammers may spoof a legitimate law enforcement agency phone number and use the name of a real law enforcement officer to gain the victim’s trust.
We do not call citizens seeking payment for outstanding traffic citations or warrants. This includes claims of unpaid federal or state taxes.
If you reside in St. Charles Parish and feel you have fallen victim to a scam, please contact us and report it at (985)783-6807.
