SJSO sergeant injured during arrest of suspect

A St. John Sheriff’s Office sergeant was injured while trying to arrest the driver of a stolen car in LaPlace.
The confrontation happened this morning in the parking lot of a business in the 1600 block of West Airline Highway in LaPlace. About 11:15 a.m., the SJSO was notified of a stolen vehicle traveling on West Airline Highway in LaPlace. As the officer made a traffic stop on the vehicle, the driver exited the vehicle and attempted to flee on foot. The sergeant sustained a laceration to the leg as he apprehended the suspect.
The officer is being treated at a local hospital where he is in stable condition. The suspect also was treated for minor injuries.
