2019. CHARLES PARISH—In 2020, 10,674 unbuckled passenger vehicle occupants were killed in crashes in the United States. This was a 14% increase from 2019. An early study from January – June 2021 estimates an increase of about 18.4% of people who died from traffic accidents in the United States. That’s the largest number of projected fatalities in that time period since 2006.

The St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office will be partnering with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration for the “Buckle-Up in Your Truck” campaign which will span from April 22 until April 29. This campaign will target drivers operating vehicles without seatbelts in an effort to bring awareness and save lives.
