LAPLACE—L’OBSERVATEUR is putting the finishing touches on its upcoming River Parishes Magazine. Its theme is “Traditions Continued.” Stories that will be included share Ponchatoula traditions, the local Andouille tradition, and a special ribbon cutting that took place in St. Charles Parish.

Recently, The Veterans Memorial Plaza opened. It honors all five branches of the Armed Forces with granite monuments. It is also home to the state’s second Gold Star Families Memorial Monument, providing a place of permanence for Gold Star Families to gather. There is also a POW/MIA statue to recognize American prisoners of war and those missing in action, as well as a Purple Heart Memorial. In addition, LED lights frame the park, allowing access for evening tributes and providing nighttime visibility from the Hale Boggs Bridge.

The magazine is going to press this week and will be available in the coming weeks in the newspaper, for pickup locally, and online.
