ST. JOHN PARISH–National Library Week is a great time to visit the St. John the Baptist Parish Library! It is a time to celebrate the contributions of our nation’s libraries and to promote library use and support sponsored by the American Library Association and libraries nationwide. This year’s theme is, “There’s More to The Story.” Libraries are full of stories in various formats, but there’s so much more. Library programming brings communities together for recreation, education, and connection through book discussions, story times, crafts, nutrition, and horticultural classes. In addition, libraries provide community access to the internet and technology, online homework help, literacy skills, and support for job seekers, students, and entrepreneurs. Visit our libraries April 24 – 29 to learn more about our multi-faceted story.

St. John the Baptist Parish Library will host programs to support the organization and celebrate National Library Week.  We partnered with The St. John the Baptist Parish 4-H to host an Edible Book Contest. This contest was open to all parish youth in grades K-12 that attend school and/or reside in St. John the Baptist Parish. See all the fantastic entries and vote for your favorite edible creation at The Roland Borne, Sr. Memorial Library on April 24, The Leroy D. Williams Memorial Library on April 25, and The Frazee-Harris Memorial Library on April 26 at 5:30 PM.  Who do you think will receive the awards at each branch for Best in Show, Funniest/Punniest, and People’s Choice? For more information, please call 4-H Agent Xavier Bell at (985) 497-3261.

We also have a variety of programs for patrons of all ages. Kids can attend “Storytime,” “Get Caught Reading” and claim a prize from our treasure chests, show off your terrible art skills by creating “Bad Art,” sample from our “Book Tasting Buffet,” or pick up a kit to create “Art of Blackout Poetry.”  Teens can create one-of-a-kind “DIY Character Buttons” and participate in “Are You in It to Win It?” game nights.  Adult patrons are welcome to attend “Computer Basics,” “Creative Morning Makers,” and LSU AgCenter’s “Grocery Shopping on A Budget” with nutritionist Rinalda Rocquin. Finally, don’t forget to watch our virtual Author Talks featuring best-selling authors at https://libraryc.org/stjohnlib and ‘Los Libros’ with Carlos Diaz on our Facebook Page.

For a full list of all programs, please refer to our online calendar on our website, www.stjohnlib.com, or pick up a newsletter at any of our three branches.  We hope you all can participate in the great programs at St. John the Baptist Parish Library.
