BATON ROUGE — St. John the Baptist Parish, “Excel” with us at this year’s 4-H University, as registration is now available. This four-day, three-night event is for eighth through 12th graders and will take place Tuesday, June 20, 2023, through Friday, June 23, 2023, at LSU in Baton Rouge.

4-H’ers will compete for the best in the state in 34 contests ranging from plant identification, photography and graphic design to public speaking and fashion design. In addition, almost 300 youth will participate in the non-competitive learning event called Clover College, which allows youth to learn about various career opportunities and participate in hands-on workshops.

During 4-HU, participants will be introduced to aspects of life that college students experience daily. Youth may have the opportunity to tour a working dairy, a biomedical center or athletic facilities. Youth will also have the opportunity to see how college students live during the week by residing in campus dormitories, eating at campus dining halls, and even going through the rigors of scheduling classes.

4-HU allows youth to meet 4-H’ers from throughout the state and compete for trips and prizes through various project-area contests.

The cost to attend camp is $100 per camper—the registration, housing, transportation and event T-shirt. Participants will be responsible for purchasing their meals. To begin training and preparing for this event, the registration form and $50 non-refundable deposit is due to the St. John the Baptist 4-H Office by April 28, 2023.
