Byrd Soars to Hall of Fame; Former RA coach to be inducted into LHSCA Hall of Fame

RESERVE—Former Riverside Academy boys basketball coach Timmy Byrd has been selected for induction into the Louisiana Coaches Association Hall of Fame during a ceremony to be held in Baton Rouge in April.

Byrd coached at Riverside Academy for 11 seasons, taking the Rebels to seven Louisiana High School Athletic Association state tournaments, winning five titles and finishing as state runner-up twice. The Rebels’ last play for a title was in 2016.

Prior to coming to Riverside, Byrd led the Reserve Christian Eagles basketball team to seven championships before the school closed in 2009. In all, Byrd led his teams to 12 state championships.. He compiled a record of 786-247 in 23 years.

Byrd graduated from East St. John High School and led the Wildcats to their only football state championship in 1980. He signed with LSU but later transferred to Southern Miss.

 

Noah Trepagnier, a junior, is a first year journalism student. He is a member of the Riverside football team, the basketball team and the track team. He wants to pursue a career in sports journalism.
