RESERVE— RiverWorks Discovery welcomes high school juniors and seniors in South Louisiana to explore careers along the river through activities such as line throwing, firefighting, and touring Cargill at two separate Who Works the Rivers career events. On March 14, school buses from St. Charles and St. James parishes transported approximately 150 students to a river of possibilities, followed by St. John, Ascension, and St. Charles parishes on March 23.

Who Works the Rivers presenters helps students gain insights and appreciation for the vital contribution rivers provide the nation. The interactive presentations give students a valuable chance to meet and speak with mariners, captains, logistical leaders, and other individuals employed in river careers.

The importance of rivers on multiple facets of everyday life is highlighted to provide as much opportunity for student involvement as possible.

At the Port of South Louisiana, students use their hands to try line rigging, build bumpers, throw out life rings, and even take their selfie game to another level with an imaging station. Students tour Cargill, Inc, where they learn how Cargill takes farmers’ crops and distributes the food to various facilities across the country utilizing our nation’s rivers.
