LAPLACE—St. Charles Catholic’s Stagehands Drama Club is happy to present this year’s Spring Musical:  Ducktails and Bobbysocks – a rocking 1950’s show. The play will take place at the St. John Theatre through March 23-25, each show beginning at 7:30 pm.  Tickets are $10 each.

The entire cast is made up of talented Comets from the 8th – 12th grades, and many of the students performing in the show are first-time musical performers.  Others are theatre veterans, having performed in several productions with SCC and with other performing arts groups.  A few SCC alumni are also set for cameo appearances, and they’ve volunteered their time to choreograph numbers, help with the set, and assist Director Greer Millet with rehearsals.  The Stagehands have a long history of excellent productions, including SeussicalThe Addams FamilyHigh School MusicalJoseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, and more. Ducktails & Bobbysocks is sure to be their next big hit!

The SCC Stagehand’s goal is to promote live theatre among River Parish students. The young people of today search for inspiration in a world in which other media awaits them.  Live theatre is as important as ever in a world full of iPhones, iPads, and social media.  As active theatre participants rather than as passive watchers of social media, audiences can feed the mind, hold fast the attention, and refresh the human spirit.

Theatre projects develop and nurture a joy and love for the performing arts.  According to the American Alliance for Theatre and Education, the positive effects of theatre education on high school students’ academic achievement is significant.  In fact, the American Alliance for Theatre sites studies that show “In addition to having higher standardized test scores than their peers who do not experience the arts, student who participate in drama often experience improved reading comprehension, maintain better attendance records, and stay generally more engaged in school than their non-arts counterparts.”

SCC Junior, Aiden Ocmond, shared his excitement for this year’s production, “I’m really looking forward to this play as we have all spent so much time dedicated to practicing. I am especially excited as I know how much I and my other castmates are enjoying it.” Fellow SCC Junior, Lily Bordeon, said of the show, “This year’s play has been incredibly fun for me. It is super cute, and I fell in love with the plot, the songs, and the characters. I feel like everyone was cast perfectly. Mrs. Millet did an amazing job!”
