During the month of March, the Louisiana Legislative Black Caucus takes time to reflect on and acknowledge the impact that women have made to make our society a better place to live.

Women’s History Month is a time to honor and celebrate the countless contributions and achievements of women throughout history. It’s also a time to create spaces for young girls and women to learn and become the woman they want to be.

“Each time a woman stands up for herself, without knowing it possibly without claiming it, she stands up for all women.” Maya Angelou

LLBC Vice Chairwoman Candace N. Newell stated, that when I was a young girl I had a shirt that had the quote that said, “Girls can do anything boys can do, only better.” Women’s History Month gives examples of how important women’s empowerment is to our society.

The Louisiana Legislative Black Caucus honors this historical month in celebrating women’s accomplishments and contributions they have made to make life better for others and their communities.

Established in 1977, the primary purpose of the Louisiana Legislative Black Caucus is to raise the quality of life for those underrepresented, the indigent and working people through legislation, education and economic development
