LAPLACE—The 2022-2023 St. Charles Catholic High School Students of the Year were recognized at a schoolwide mass on February 14 by Dr. Courtney Millet, the school principal.

St. Charles Catholic High School is honored to announce their Twelfth-Grade Student of the Year, Erin Powell, and Eighth Grade Student of the Year, Ava Klibert.

Erin is the daughter of Connie and the late Glennon (Silky) Powell of LaPlace.  She has attended SCC since eighth grade and has served in several leadership capacities such as Class President in her 8th through 11th grades. She is currently busy serving as the Student Council President. She was also the President of the French Club and is the Vice President of the Beta Club.  She is a co-founder of Academic Games and the team captain for three years.

Erin has also participated in a number of clubs such as Retreat Team, SCC Ambassadors, the National Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta, and Stagehands.   She also is an Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion.

During her time at St. Charles, Erin has been a member of the cheer team for three years. She received Team Awards at UCA Camp last year. She has been a member of the Stagehands Drama Club for five years and is presently serving as Treasurer.  Erin has been a Wetland Watchers Volunteer for six years and worked with the USDA in coastal preservation projects.

Erin’s many academic successes include receiving a scholarship for her placement test ranking in 2018. Erin was also chosen as the Student of the Year in 2018-19. She has earned the SCC Gold Award for 100 + hours of community service annually beginning in her 8th grade year.  She has made the Principal’s List annually since eighth grade.  In 2022, Erin became a member of SCC’s 30 Point Club—one of St. Charles’s highest honors granted to students who score a 30 or above on the ACT.

Erin consistently goes above and beyond in every venture and has maintained a 4.0 in the most rigorous curriculum SCC offers. St. Charles is proud to have such a determined and well-rounded student represent them.

Ava, SCC’s eighth grade student of the year, is the daughter of Natalie and Shawn Klibert of Reserve. She is a member of the SCC Starsteppers. Ava came to St. Charles Catholic from St. Charles Borromeo where she was on the Student Council and in the Beta Club for two years.  At SCB, she participated in volleyball, softball, and flag football. Ava was a member of the Royals Dance Team there.

St. Charles Catholic extends congratulations and best wishes to these two students in all of their future ambitions.
