L’OBSERVATEUR recently celebrated 110 years of being part of the river parish communities. At the end of the article commemorating this milestone(January 25 edition) I noted that through pandemics, wars, deaths and births L’OBSERVATEUR continued to publish.  Last week was a little busier than usual because there was a death and a birth.

Jim Boone, the founder and chairman of the board of Boone Newsmedia, Inc. (BNI), passed away after a short illness on February 13. L’OBSERVATEUR is part of the “BNI Family,” has been an affiliate of BNI, since 2014.

Mr. Boone was 87 years old and his was a life well lived.  Mr. Boone was in the newspaper business his entire life. He was a man that believed in a harmonic community expressing this in his writings.  Taking part in many civic associations, he was a man of respect and showed this to all.

He was ahead of his time. That may seem like an oxymoron with ahead of his time tied to newspapers, but Mr. Boone was active, until the end of his life, in learning and took part in many discussions on the future of newspapers, improving content and keeping up with technology. It is this forward thinking that has made it possible for L’OBSERVATEUR to continue telling the stories of the community.

Mr. Boone’s obituary can be read on page 3A. He will be missed by all.

This week brought a new addition with the birth of Emilia Cantrelle on Valentine’s Day. Emilia is the daughter of L’OBSERVATEUR News Editor, Brooke R. Cantrelle, and her husband Matt.

According to her mom, “Emilia Violet arrived two days after her due date the night of February 14, weighing in at 8 pounds 1.9 ounces and measuring 20 inches long. Emi has blonde hair, beautiful blue eyes, and the chubbiest cheeks. She is our forever Valentine, and we are so excited to bring her home and start this new chapter together as a family of three!”

Brooke will be out for the next several weeks. You will continue to see new stories she prepared for her absence, but she will not be writing. However, be assured, there will be a newspaper every week and new content on lobservatueur.com every day. That being said, I would personally like to invite you all to send us pictures, stories, event information and other things that the community would like to know and together we will get it done.

Thank you for your help and being a supporter of L’OBSERVATEUR. We appreciate you and look forward to hearing from you.
