Sheriff Greg Champagne is joining other local law enforcement agencies in participating in the statewide Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over campaign which will run during the Mardi Gras season from February 10 through February 21, 2023. The campaign is coordinated and funded by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and the Louisiana Highway Safety Commission.

Drinking and driving in Louisiana remains a major cause of vehicle crashes, serious

injuries, and fatalities. Approximately one-third of all traffic crash fatalities in the United

States involve drunk drivers (with BACs at or above .08). In 2020, there were 11,654

people killed in drunk-driving crashes.

“By joining this statewide effort, we hope to make the streets of St. Charles Parish safer for everyone”, said Sheriff Champagne. The St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office will have increased officers on the road, aimed to reduce drunk driving.

Plan ahead as you head out to Mardi Gras festivities – If you plan on drinking, plan on not driving.
