“Harvest Time”

Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

A lady left her home headed to her job on the 60th floor of the World Trade Center like she did five days a week. The date happened to be September 11. She had no way of knowing that she would spend twenty-seven hours trapped in the rubble. Her time could have easily been up. Time is the most valuable resource we have. Everyone has the same amount of time each day. What you do with your time is of most importance. It is harvesting time and time is running out.

The writer of Proverbs wrote, “He who gathers in summer is a wise son; He who sleeps in harvest is a son who causes shame.” (Proverbs 10:5). Two sons are in this proverb. One was a wise son. One was a son that caused shame. The difference made by the two sons was in what each did with their time. Four truths show the difference of each son.

First, the awareness. One son knew what time it was. It was time to gather. If you don’t harvest during the time the crops are ready you miss your chance. Are we aware the clock is ticking. Jesus said to “lift up your eyes and look at the fields, for they are already white for harvest.” (John 4: 35).  God saw then and He sees now.

Second, the attitude. One son had the attitude to go to the fields and harvest while he could. One son had the attitude to lay there and sleep, he slept during the harvest. Many a successful person gets up early because they have so much to get done.

Third, the actions. One son gathered in the months of harvest. He was moved to action. God is always on the move. Why do we get so comfortable standing still? One son slept, the only action he had was to wiggle his toes while sleeping.

Fourth, the awaking. He woke up and didn’t stay asleep during the most crucial time. Look at our world. People don’t know their last day. The church doesn’t know it’s last opportunity. We need an awaking. First thing to happen when one gets a wake is to open their eyes. May we wake up, it is harvest time.
