Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries enforcement agents cited a Lake Arthur man on Feb. 3 for alleged hunting violations in Jefferson Davis Parish.

Agents cited Clay J. Hebert, 22, for hunting deer during a closed season, violating outlaw quadrupeds night hunting regulations, hunting deer during illegal hours, contributing to the delinquency of a juvenile and hunting without basic hunting and deer hunting licenses.

Agents began investigating Hebert after learning he illegally harvested a six point deer at night and two hogs on the night of Jan. 29 and early morning hours of Jan. 30.  During questioning, Hebert admitted to agents that he shot the six-point deer at night with a .30 caliber rifle while he was with two juveniles near Highway 380 in the Thornwell area.

Hunting deer during a closed season and hunting deer during illegal hours brings a $900 to $950 fine and up to 120 days in jail for each offense.  Violating outlaw quadrupeds night hunting regulations carries a $250 to $500 fine and up to 90 days in jail.  Hunting without basic hunting and deer hunting licenses brings up to a $350 fine for each offense.  Contributing to the delinquency of a juvenile carries up to a $1,000 fine and six months in jail.

Hebert may also face civil restitution totaling $1,624 for the replacement value of the illegally taken deer.

Agents participating in the case are Sgt. David Sanford, Senior Agent Katie Mathias, Sgt. Anthony Verret and Senior Agent Dylan Armentor.
