RESERVE — This week, St. John Parish President Jaclyn Hotard, joined by Parks & Recreation Director Michael Sanders and St. John staff, Council Members, and representatives from Marathon Petroleum Company, LP, Meyer Engineers and Geosurfaces, broke ground on a new turf field on baseball field No. 2 at REGALA Park.

Funded by Marathon Petroleum Company, LP, the turf installation project is expected to be completed in two months prior to the start of baseball season. Recreation Director, Michael Sanders, said that the new turf field will allow the department to hold practices and games even if the fields are wet.

Drainage improvements and other enhancements to the field area are also in the works.

President Hotard added, “Parks & Recreation is so important to our community and the first introduction most kids have to Parish Government. When you invest in your facilities and programs, families will continue to come back for many years to come. I appreciate the forward thinking of the Recreation Department and the hard work of all the staff. I also want to thank Marathon for their continued support.”
