Tuition assistance available for solar training at RPCC

GONZALES — Registration for the Spring term is open for the NCCER Solar PV Installer class, offered through River Parishes Community College.

The Solar PV Installer course is for individuals looking to start a rewarding career in Solar Photovoltaic Installation that takes the trainee through solar technology fundamentals, site assessments, system design, system installation and inspection, and maintenance and troubleshooting.

The NCCER course focuses on introducing trainees to the basic knowledge of PV Components; provides explanations on how to: determine customer needs, assess site-specific safety hazards, conduct a site survey, identify the best practice for finding the most efficient location to apply PV installation; explains system design regarding array configurations, component selection, wire sizing, bonding, grounding, and selection process of overcurrent protection and disconnects.

Trainees will also gain assistance in essential skills in resume writing, interviewing skills, mock interviews, and career exploration in the solar technology field.

The next class is scheduled for January 24 through April 6, from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday at the RPCC Gonzales campus.

The tuition for this class is $1,100.  Tuition assistance is available in the amount of $900 per student. The balance due will be $200, which must be paid prior to the first day of class.

Criteria for tuition assistance:

  • Be a Louisiana resident, 18 years or older and
  • Complete a form providing required information to process your tuition assistance and
  • Complete the class

A link to a Microsoft form for the tuition assistance will be provided after registration. Since this is a federal grant program, there may be additional information requested once class starts.

Please note, this class is subject to cancellation based on minimum enrollment requirements.
