ST. JAMES PARISH (Jan. 10, 2023)- The State Fire Marshal’s Office has arrested a Vacherie woman for allegedly setting her mother’s home on fire while her mother was inside.
Kierra Moody, 31, was booked into the St. James Parish Jail on Saturday, Dec. 31, 2022, on one count of Aggravated Arson.
In the early morning hours of New Year’s Eve, the South Vacherie Fire Department responded to a report of a house fire located in the 21000 block of Judge Becnel Ln. Firefighters learned the homeowner had been able to put the fire out before their arrival. No one was injured.
Following an assessment of the scene and collecting witness statements, deputies determined there was more than one area of origin and that the fires were intentionally set. Through additional investigative efforts, it was determined that Moody was the suspect in the case and a warrant was obtained for her arrest.
Moody was located later that day and taken into custody in connection with the case.
