Waggaman – On Friday January 6, 2023, around 10:45 pm Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop B responded to a two-vehicle crash on LA 18 at Rusty Road in Waggaman. The crash ultimately claimed the life of 45-year-old Charles Hebert of Ama.

The initial investigation revealed that Hebert was driving a 2007 Harley-Davidson motorcycle west on LA 18 near Rusty Road, behind a 1990 Chevrolet Suburban. As the Chevrolet approached the Rusty Road intersection, it began to turn left onto Rusty Road. While the Chevrolet was in the process of making the left turn, Hebert attempted to pass it on the left side. The Harley-Davidson struck the front left side of the Chevrolet and Hebert was ultimately ejected from the motorcycle.

Despite wearing a helmet, Hebert suffered severe injuries and was transported to a local hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries. The driver of the Chevrolet was not properly restrained, suffered minor injuries and was transported to a local hospital for treatment. As part of the ongoing investigation, toxicology samples from both drivers will be submitted for analysis.

Troopers encourage all riders to attend an approved motorcycle safety course. These courses teach safe riding practices and help you apply safe riding strategies that can help reduce your chance of injury should a crash occur.
