St. John the Baptist Parish – Parish President Hotard is pleased to announce that St. John the Baptist Parish was recently awarded two grants by the Louisiana Water Sector Commission totaling $7.49 million for water and wastewater system improvements.

“I am proud of the work that was done to receive this funding,” said Parish President Hotard. “We were selected through a competitive grant application process and this grant will allow the Parish to move forward with much-needed capital improvements.”

Under the Wastewater Infrastructure Category, the Parish received $5 million to consolidate sewer systems near Cambridge and Woodland, that will enable the Parish to close the deteriorating Woodland Wastewater Treatment Plant on Woodland Drive.

The Parish was also awarded $2.49 million to expand the water treatment capabilities at the Lions Water Treatment Plant in Reserve. Under the proposed project, the Parish plans to increase the filter capacity and construct new filters at Lions. The Lions plant serves residents in Reserve and Garyville and also serves as a backup water supply for the West Bank.

Both the wastewater and water projects funded under the Water Sector Program are part of President Hotard’s massive utilities infrastructure improvement plan and are slated for construction in 2023 at an estimated cost of $11.5 million. This funding will save the Parish approximately 65% of the planned expenditures for these infrastructure improvements. ###
