Agents cited Daniel Duzac, 29, for taking an alligator during a closed season following an illegal alligator harvest within the Bonnet Carre’ Spillway.

LDWF agents were on patrol within the spillway near the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers field office when they observed Duzac harvest an alligator by the Mississippi River flood control locks.

St. Charles Parish is included in the east zone for the alligator-hunting season, which opened on the last Wednesday of August and remained open for 60 days.  Agents seized the 7 foot 9 inch alligator.

Taking an alligator during a closed season brings up to a $950 fine and 120 days in jail.  Duzac may also face civil restitution for the replacement value of the illegally taken alligator totaling $375.80.

Agents participating in the case are Sgt. Kyle Wagner and Agent Heather Fitzgerald.  The case will be forwarded to the office of District Attorney Joel Chaisson for prosecution.
