Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

James K. Daigre (Jimmy) unfortunately for all of us left behind, decided it was time to go the morning of October 30th, 2022.

Jimmy was born on April 30, 1942 in Baton Rouge, LA to John E. Daigre and Genevieve Mouch Daigre.

He grew up in Port Allen and was a graduate of Port Allen High School.  After graduation, he attended Louisiana State University and Southeastern Louisiana University for 2 years before deciding to proudly serve his country in the United States Air Force.

After returning home from his military service, he met his beautiful wife, Mary Catherine Supple and they were married on September 6, 1969.  They started their family life in Port Allen, but in 1975 Jimmy accepted a job in LaPlace where he would reside with his family for the remainder of his days.

Pops, as he was known to his grandchildren, was a loyal and faithful LSU Tiger.  He was a season ticket holder for 57 seasons and was an attendee at some of the greatest games in LSU history.  He was a Marshall for the LSU baseball team for 12 seasons, acting as Paul Mainieri’s dugout mate for many of those seasons.  He attended the 1st Saints game in history against the LA Rams in 1967 at Tulane Stadium and saw Jack Dempsey’s kick in 1970 with his good friend, Brent Rhodes.  He was the world’s worst golfer and noted club thrower at the annual family putt putt competition in Gulf Shores.  He was known to ruin most meals with ketchup and drink more coffee than most normal people should.  In his later years, he became a professional botanist successfully growing a Night Blooming Cereus with Mary Catherine.  Mostly, Jimmy was known to all of his friends and family as an amazing husband, father, grandfather and friend….he never met a stranger.

He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Mary Catherine Daigre, his children James “Kent” Daigre, Jr. (Kerry), Austen Daigre (Chantelle), and Jordan Daigre.  His brothers, Dr. John E. Daigre (Toni), Gerard W. Daigre (Carmelite).  His Sisters-in-law, Hazel Laborde (C.C.), Carol Ann Hunt, Sue Supple, Barbara Drury (Lenny).  His Grandchildren, Catie Hickman (Benjamin), Grace Daigre, Claire Daigre, Elise Daigre and Kate Ellen Daigre.  His Great Grandchildren, Harper, Emmett and Sunni Grace Hickman.  His Plaquemine family, Wayne and Martha Blanchard and Terry Gallagher and dear friend, Leo Gascon (MJ).

He is preceded in death by his parents, Father in Law, Joseph R. Supple, Mother in Law, Hazel A. Supple,  Aunt Mildred A. Mouch, Blanche Daigre, Lynn Hunt, Robert Hunt and his beloved fur buddies Fred, Pywacket, Rex and Zippy Daigre.

Visitation will be at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, 529 5TH St., in LaPlace, LA on Tuesday, November 8, 2022 from 9-11 am, followed immediately by a Funeral Mass.

In lieu of flowers, Pops would please ask that you consider a donation to the St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital of which he was an avid supporter.    Donate to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital – St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital (stjude.org)
