Residents asked to evacuate following acid leak in St. James Parish; State Police evaluating incident site

PAULINA— Louisiana State Police Emergency Services Unit personnel are evaluating the site where a train derailed this afternoon in St. James Parish, leading to closure of several streets and evacuation of residents in the immediate area due to an acid leak.
Further details will be forthcoming as information is confirmed by emergency response personnel. The following roads remain closed:
-LA 44 is closed from Antioch Street to Rev. Dr. Samuel Jones
-LA 642 from LA 44 to Sugarhouse St is fully closed
-LA 44 west of LA 3193 is open to residents only
All streets within the exclusionary zone are closed.

Evacuation Zone: If you live within this area, shelter is available at the Lutcher Senior Center.

Residents who live in this area may seek shelter at the Lutcher Senior Center. Those who have elderly family members who do not have social media are urged to please contact them and get them to evacuate.
